Place Bonaventure Hosts Montreal Manufacturing Technology Show (MMTS) 2018

(Montreal) — The 2018 edition of the Montreal Manufacturing Technology Show (MMTS), Quebec’s leading manufacturing event, will take place at Place Bonaventure in Montreal from May 14-16. The biennial event, produced by SME for more than 30 years, will attract more than 5,000 manufacturing professionals and will feature the most recent innovations and advancements in manufacturing technologies and processes. This includes the adoption of automation, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and other disruptive technologies of smart manufacturing.

The Centre de recherche industriel du Québec (CRIQ) will be participating at MMTS for the first time to present the first cyber-physical factory in Canada. More than 300 OEMs and suppliers will exhibit at the event, showcasing their products and solutions; additionally, MMTS 2018 features four keynote presentations, more than thirty speakers and three networking events.

As digital transformation transitions manufacturing to Industry 4.0, Quebec is playing an active leadership role in that journey. Quebec has taken its place as a global leader in smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0, and the innovations and thought leadership on display at MMTS will have implications and implementations far beyond Canada.

“At MMTS we wanted not only to present the latest technological advances related to metalworking applications, processes and innovations, but also to give Quebec’s manufacturers the opportunity to gain new insights in the rapidly changing world of smart manufacturing,” said Julie Pike, Director, Canadian Events at SME Canada. “The transition to Industry 4.0 is a central concern for many Quebec manufacturers and MMTS will offer a vision and path to achieve new technology adoption.”

As a strategic partner of MMTS, the CRIQ will present the first cyber-physical factory in Canada. This comprehensive smart factory design is used as a learning and research platform. Its operations allow participants to observe and understand the effects of Industry 4.0 technologies within a demonstration environment, before having to commit to the investment required to transform their own company.

Three Days, Three Themes

Event organizers have divided the content into three dedicated themes to help attendees organize their thinking and plan their schedules.

Day 1 (May 14) : Digital Transformations in Manufacturing

The first day is dedicated to advanced techniques for manufacturing and assembly including Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, IoT, big data, enterprise resource planning, and digital factories that will help to reduce costs and increase productivity.

Day 2: Advancements in Robotics Technology

This second day will focus on different automated processes that enable manufacturers to increase precision, productivity and flexibility in their operations. The topics include collaborative robots, mechatronics, adaptive robotics and automated equipment, among others.

Day 3: Transforming Business Models with 3D Printing

The 4th Annual Réseau Québec-3D (RQ3D) Conference, presented jointly with the CRIQ, will be held on the third day of MMTS. This annual event dedicated to the latest advances in additive manufacturing is organized jointly by the CRIQ, PRIMA Québec, Canada Makes and the Consortium de recherche et d’innovation en transformation métallique au Québec (CRITM). This 4th edition of RQ3D will promote the adoption of new business models by implementing additive manufacturing in the industry.
